International Peace Marathon 2007


At least once a year we can say that all roads lead to Košice. These are the roads of endurance runners, fans of running and all those who wish to cheer the runners from all around the world on their demanding running track. The oldest marathon in Europe and the second oldest in the world is an important tradition of the East Slovak capital.

The first marathon in Košice was run in 1924. Since then this event has been held every year with an exception of two years during the World War II.  Thanks to all those years which were almost continuous Košice marathon became the oldest marathon in Europe and the second oldest marathon in the world. Only the Boston Marathon has a longer tradition. It has been held since 1897. Therefore Slovakia and Košice can be proud of this real curiosity.       

The inimitability of Košice Marathon has always attracted the world top runners, including for example Olympic winners Juan Carlos Zabala and Abebebikila. The marathon maintains its high standard and thus it still attracts the best sportsmen and loads of spectators.     



WINNERS from 2007

William BIAMA, runner from Kenya won Kosice Peace Marathon with time 2:09:53, and created new course record in Kosice (Old record 2:12:35). Also the second runner Simon BOR Kipruto from Kenya, broke the old course record by time 2:12:01 and the thirth was the runner from Russian Lenar Chusnudtinov by time 2:15:29 h.
